Fur is dull grayish brown above and lighter below. The uropatagium is dark brown and sparsely haired near its base. The wing membrane is dark brown and sparsely haired. Wingspan is 9-11".

Insects.

Indiana bats prefer wooded habitats along streams, and are found in cave regions in the eastern United States.  Indiana bats typically  hibernate in dense clusters in caves.

Note**  There has been only one documented record for this species in Wisconsin.

The present total population of this federally endangered species is fewer than 360,000 with more than 85% hibernating at only 9 locations, making them extremely vulnerable to destruction. Populations continue to decrease despite recovery efforts. Details of reproduction are poorly known, though we do know that one young is produced annually and can live more than 13 years.
